OK!
First off, Ted, Matt and I went to see Seven Pounds last night (none of us were truly that interested, Ted and I were just talking about it because I had no idea what it was about and we wanted to get out of the house {Note this was at nine at night} so we dragged Matt along {he didn't know what he was going to see until we got there and he had to pay for his ticket}). It was okay. It was really boring and confusing up until the plot came together, which was more than an hour into it. What made it worse was this music, that they must have thought was amazing seeing as they used it twice, which played some out of tune note every fourth or fifth note. I'll make it more painful for you; Go to a piano (I don't care if you have to go to the local piano store) and hit two white keys that are right next to each other. It was that sound, every fourth or fifth note. God, it was painful. Ted and I were dying (of laughter as well as pain). At one point an emergency siren went off in the theater and we all had to leave. The sad thing is Ted and I were upset only because we weren't going to get to see the end. Though, amusingly, everyone just went around to the front, went back into the theater, sat back down and waited for the movie to start again. Luckily, it wasn't a real emergency or we would have been a bunch of dumbasses walking into a fire our something.
Second, we're painting my room. We're smudging a light blue. It's gorgeous! It reminds me a lot of Magritte, which makes me absolutely giddy. I'll get pictures up when it's finished and the furniture is back in place, which might not be for a while because we're also putting in new carpet (pretty, green carpet in fact =D).
Third, I'm making a cake for Christmas dinner. It's my first time makeing a dessert for my extended family. I'm making a Yule Log cake. Not only is it my first big time dessert it's also my first roll cake, yikes. We'll see how it comes out, I'm waiting till tomorrow to make it, and I'll share pictures then. I can't wait.
Fourth, this past semester, in Children's Lit, I learned that Harry Potter, whether intentional or not, has a lot in common with Lord of The Rings but I never realized just how much. They also have lists for other films and literature, but that's just because they all follow along the same adventure/hero story pattern. Also, there are certain elements that are used in all adventure stories. However, the Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings similarities are a lot and very specific. For instance; "Evil sorceror referred to as "Dark Lord" who desires to regain physical shape", "Inherited invisibility device", "Dog named Fang", "Evil, creepy hooded creatures", "Giant Spider", "Small, pitiable creature who talks in third person", just to name a few. I really need to read the Lord of the Rings series. First, however, I need to finish Running with Scissors and the His Dark Materials series.
Fifth, I've gotten my mother hook on Charmed!
Charmed is awesome! You can deny it all you want, but at the end of the day you know you love it.
That's all for now. I need to make cookies, paint my room, go see The Day The Earth Stood Still in IMAX (We watched the original Black and White version last night, it was good {I love old movies}) and figure out a way to get my frustrated mother to pay for my flickr account without getting yelled at.
